What an intimate wedding means here
Intimate weddings are intentionally small: usually under 65 guests, in a cozy setting rather than a banquet hall. A gondola ride to a summit lodge at Bretton Woods, the top of Cannon with Franconia Ridge across the notch, a rented mountain house near Loon with everyone staying on site. Often the couple does a private ceremony first, just the two of them and a witness on a ledge or a summit, then walks into a reception with their people already there.
I take on a select number of these each year and I prioritize unique venues and mountain settings. For the weddings I say yes to, I generally cap out around 65 to 75 guests with a smaller wedding party, typically up to four people on each side. That keeps the day relaxed and keeps me able to photograph it the way I photograph an elopement: documentary first, very little posing, built around light and weather.
I know a lot of the vendors in the White Mountains and Lakes Region and have real recommendations for florists, officiants, planners, caterers, and hair and makeup. I'm also an ordained officiant, so if the ceremony is private, I can sign the license.

What is considered an intimate wedding?
An intimate wedding is a full wedding day scaled down to the people who actually matter. Most of the ones I photograph land under 65 guests, at a summit lodge, on a private estate, in a rented mountain house, or on a mountaintop followed by dinner. You still get a ceremony, toasts, a first dance if you want one. You just skip the parts that exist for a crowd.
How many guests can I invite?
For the weddings I take on, I cap out around 65 to 75 guests, with a smaller wedding party of up to four people on each side. That size keeps the day relaxed, keeps the timeline honest, and lets me photograph everyone as people rather than as a room. Anything larger is better served by a photographer who runs a second shooter and a full-scale wedding operation.
Can we do a private ceremony, then a reception with everyone?
Yes, and it's my favorite version. Say your vows somewhere quiet with just the two of you and a witness, on a ledge, a summit, or the porch of your rental, then join your people for the celebration. I'm an ordained officiant, so I can sign the license at the ceremony, and I'll build the timeline so the light works for both halves of the day.
What are the best mountain wedding venues in New Hampshire?
For views, the ski mountains win: Rosebrook Lodge at Bretton Woods by gondola, the summit of Cannon Mountain by aerial tramway, Loon Peak's Summit Amphitheater by gondola, the Meister Hut on top of Cranmore by chairlift, the summit of Wildcat by scenic chairlift, looking straight at Mount Washington, Mount Tecumseh at Waterville Valley by chairlift, Gunstock above Lake Winnipesaukee, and Mount Sunapee over Lake Sunapee. The Cog Railway will charter a train to Waumbek Station on Mount Washington for up to about 70. Off the lifts, the Mountain View Grand in Whitefield, Castle in the Clouds above Winnipesaukee, and The Preserve at Chocorua in Tamworth all put a range in every frame. A rented mountain house near Loon or North Conway is the option if you'd rather skip the venue entirely.
